We perform crash data downloads with the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Tool, the GIT Hyundai/Kia tools and the Tesla EDR tool. The Bosch tool is used to retrieve information from most vehicles. Here is a link to Bosch’s list of vehicles for which some type of data can be obtained:

Bosch CDR Currently Supported Vehicles

Some US Manufactured vehicles are supported for download all the way back to the 1990s. These older vehicles only have limited data about the crash itself and do not record pre-crash data.

Hyundai and Kia EDR downloads are available for MY 2013 and newer vehicles. Almost all Tesla vehicles have EDR data available.

Newer vehicles (including all those after model year 2013) have much more data about what occurred before, during and sometimes after the crash. US Federal law that went into effect (Part 563) mandated certain standards about what a vehicle must record during a crash.

Toyota Safety Sense Availability

Starting in 2018, Toyota has added the ability to access data regarding the performance of many of the safety systems on board their vehicles. This can include data about automatic emergency braking, lane departure, and may even include photographs taken from the vehicle about what the vehicle is sensing. NOTE: This data is currently limited to only certain models.

Does a vehicle have to be involved in a crash in order to have data?

Generally yes, other than the Toyota Safety Sense addressed above. Newer vehicles (generally MY 2018 and newer) may have information available if there was a hard brake incident, ABS activation, etc.

Please contact Arizona Crash & EDR Services to discuss what information may be available in your particular vehicle and under what circumstances information is recorded.
